Refugees in Cambria

Last week the Topanga Fire ravaged through my neighborhood and we were evacuated from our homes. Unfortunately, we also did not have power for 5 days. So rather than rent a hotel in the smoke infested skies of the Valley, we headed for the ocean -- Cambria, CA.

Mark found a wonderful house for rent overlooking the ocean.

Here's the view from the living room (forgive the glare.)

It was the perfect retreat from the chaos of the fire. This home had a downstairs rec room with a pool table and sun room. The upstairs had two bedrooms, a living room and a TV room. And of course, a spa tub on the balcony. After two afternoons in front of the fire catching up on last season's episodes of LOST, we were finally a bit more rested up.

Unfortunately Sunday at 5:30 am we awoke to three earthquakes. Now after the fire-scare, this was NOT an ideal way to wake up on Sunday. I hear though that they have earthquakes all the time so I guess the locals are used to it. Not me!

Cambria is a quaint little town north of San Luis Obispo. There are many bed & breakfast type lodgings as well as houses you can rent on the beach. If you are looking for a serene, relaxing, low-key vacation, this is your ticket.
